This is interesting. Apple’s iPod brand has become so popular and used to spawn more and more “Pod” and “Podcast” related terms and names that it is in danger of becoming entirely generic. In the US you don’t talk about photocopying something, you “Xerox” it. Apple is clearly concerned and are considering legal action to try to restrict the use of their trademarks.
I think this may be a case of bolting the stable door after the horse has bolted to be honest, however, I can understand their position as it is clearly diluting the strength of the brand. I always think of Apple as the friendly cool brand of the tech sector, but as they become more powerful will they start to become more ruthless and litigious? Source: Wired.
