Microsoft Announce the release of the zunePhone

August 25th, 2007

Microsoft have announced they will release their answer to the iPhone:

Of course, I found this on FakeSteveJobs.com. Read his “Dead Man vlogging” post, very funny.

California

June 5th, 2007

I haven’t been to California for many, many years, although I have fond memories from my last visit.

It is good to be back. San Francisco and the surrounding areas are really fantastic. This is sort of like my Graceland, being the hub of all things tech and Internet related. It has been very cool to drive past some of the head offices of the US tech giants and I was pretty pleased with the view from my hotel room:

Apple Store

Stock full of Apple goodness.

If you need a reminder of how deeply consumerism is integrated into America.

Freeway to San Jose/Silicon Valley

The freeways are in terrible condition. Maybe it is the earthquakes and constant sunshine?

San Francisco International Airport

No queues, friendly customs agents and easy to get around. Are you sure this is America? The complete opposite of LAX.

iTunes Store

May 11th, 2007

Is it just me or is this user interface really terrible? Why can’t they AJAX it and make it easier to find stuff? How could the masters of intuitive UI get this so wrong?

Apple iTunes Store in New Zealand

December 6th, 2006

You thought it would never happen but New Zealanders can now finally get the full iPod and iTunes experience with access to the iTunes online store. You can now purchase music from Apple via the iTune interface, download and sync to your iPod easily.

New Zealand is the last English speaking country in the world to get an iTunes store, but better late than never I guess.

iPod - The New Xerox?

October 3rd, 2006

This is interesting. Apple’s iPod brand has become so popular and used to spawn more and more “Pod” and “Podcast” related terms and names that it is in danger of becoming entirely generic. In the US you don’t talk about photocopying something, you “Xerox” it. Apple is clearly concerned and are considering legal action to try to restrict the use of their trademarks.

I think this may be a case of bolting the stable door after the horse has bolted to be honest, however, I can understand their position as it is clearly diluting the strength of the brand. I always think of Apple as the friendly cool brand of the tech sector, but as they become more powerful will they start to become more ruthless and litigious? Source: Wired.

Apple - Masters of Traditional Retail and Online B2C

September 21st, 2006

So how can one company be so good at online (iTunes) and still beat all the standard metrics for success in traditional retail?

Andy Lark has the answers.

I can confirm that the Apple Store in Regent Street, London is exactly as he describes. Buzzing with energy and people queuing orderly to purchase more Apple stuff. Every marketer should buy an Apple product to experience what it takes to be a super-brand.

It is full of bugs. Crashes regularly for no good reason. New interface is good though. Just wished it was stable.

This is the new online virtual iPod. Not the best application I’ve ever used, but it is in beta to be fair. Great idea though.

Automator - Create Keynote file from images

August 12th, 2006

This is for Apple Mac OS X 10.4+ users only, but I’ve created an Automator application that takes a folder of images and puts them into a new Keynote presentation file. Just helped me put together a 75 page presentation in about 10 seconds.
